From 17 to 19 October, Lisbon will be the host for this year’s International Association of Young Lawyers’ Transport Law Commission conference.
The organisers of this edition of the seminar, held in the capital of a country with a strong maritime tradition, have chosen the subject of the limitation of liability, which will be analysed in all its aspects.
The aim of the forum, that brings together legal professionals under the age of 45 from around the world, is to examine the limitation of liability both from the point of view of the types of transport (maritime, air, land and multimodal) and its legal and contractual nature.
The working sessions will be dedicated to discussing subjects of great importance in the day to day professional work of the participants, such as: the interpretation of the International Treaties that govern the subject matter in Europe, Africa, America and Asia; breaking liability limits; and drafting clauses to limit liability and the validity of these clauses before different Courts, amongst others.
San Simón & Duch, in pursuit of their belief in fostering cooperation and professional relationships at an international level are sending three lawyers to the seminar: Alfonso de San Simón, Diego de San Simón and F. Javier Zabala.
Zabala, who heads the Bilbao office of SS&D, is also the moderator of the session on the “Limitation of liability arising out of carriage”.
Zabala commented that, “the number of participants already confirmed is extraordinary and no doubt due to the efforts of the members of the Organising Committee, made up this year of lawyers and professionals from countries including China, the US, Colombia, the Netherlands, Germany, Nigeria, Brazil, Denmark, Turkey, Spain, Poland, Greece and Switzerland”.
